Are some languages more or less difficult to learn than other languages?
It is true that some languages are more or less difficult to learn than other languages because of roots of language. It might be easy for people lived in western to learn Spanish, French, and English. However, it is hard for people in eastern countries to lern those languages. The reason is that languages had been developed from long time ago by influencing each other countries nearby. My father used to tell me that one reason that people value people who can speak English more than people who can speak Japanese is due to difficulty level of acquiring language. There are many similarities in Japanese and Korean: structure of sentence, similar race, influence of history. However, there are more differences between Korean and English: a nuance, existence of a and an, culture difference, and different sentence structure.
Is the ability to acquire language innate or learned?
I believe that the ability to acquire language is learned. There might be some genetic reasons that support the ability of innate. However, I had felt that people learned to acquire language every vacation since I studied abroad. If the ability to acquire language is innate, people wouldn't study any languages. however, people learned language to acquire othe language especially in my case. Every vacation, I went to academy to make my English level better. While I was learning English during a vacation, I realized that I am getting better. I think the reason is that a word "learn" works same as a word "repitation". When people acquire something new, they repeat the same thing. For instance, people repeat same strokes when they learn how to swim. I think basic idea on both learning swim and language are same. Therefore, leaning is the ability to acquire language.
10. Should minority languages be saved from extinction?
I watched "Tears of the Antarctic" which is documentary. It is about how many creatures in Antarctic are suffering due to many reasons. This documentary doesn't relate with any language. However, there are same reasons that both languages and creatures in Antarctic have to be saved from extinction. First, there are many thing to learn form both languages and creature; how they occurred, and why they react or followed certain rules. Second both of them are our heritage which we could save for our descendant. the documentary that I watched doen't related with language but there were same reasons that support why people should save those from extinction
9 Does the language of new media corrupt communication and culture
I was doing web surfing to make me out of boredom. I found interesting article which is related with a question number nine. In article, author talked about the corruption of language that was occurred through new media. To support his topic, author suggested certain words that teenager used and wrote meaning. Most of the words were shorten and changed a lot compared to original words. Therefore, ot was hard for older people to understand changed words. Author insisted that the reason that change of words is in new media. New media force us to make shorten words. I agree that author's idea because there are many words that changed but people can't follow. It seems to me corruption of language because the reason for existence of language is communication with other.
6Does language shape culture or culture shape language?
I was watching Korean drama which is based on one of history period before people Korean was invented. There were many descriptions that explain certain words on the bottom of screen. Before my language was made, people borrowed language from China but they used differently. By borrowing language, people start to use two kinds of language to classify the class. One is language that used for people in a high class and the other language is for the other class people. For instance, "Yong-Ann" is a word that refer to king's face but it doesn't use for normal people. Therefore, I think culture shape language rather than language shape culture. The reason is that languages such as Yong-Ann" are made depend on culture.
